ZOARCHITECTURE

The intent of this project is to create a place to contemplate how unique characters of this plant and how can we explore the new usage in the future. This competition entry attempts to tell that how do we engage into the nature – A beautiful environment of bamboo filled hilly site located at the Northwest suburban of Chongqing.

It merges the layout of the traditional Chinese courtyard living style with the idea of how bamboo plant naturally structured itself (empty core, with light efficient material layout). Movement and randomness of stems and leaves also being expressed through the wavey massing surface.

Bamboo is an honored plant in traditional Chinese culture, often being celebrated in art, painting, literature. Its characteristics and spirits are expressed through the applied architectural elements such as exterior metal panel and building forms.
